Profile

Javier Rangel Jr. is a Trooper with over six years of faithful service to the Texas Department of Public Safety and currently stationed in Harlingen, Texas. Trooper Rangel obtained his Part 107 UAS Pilot certificate in 2022 joining the DPS UAS program and has deployed to multiple UAS operations across the State, playing a vital role in Operation Lone Star. He has completed the Department’s UAS RPIC School, Ambient School, and Thermal School. Trooper Rangel has over 300 hours experience and is proficient in the following platforms: DJI Mavic 2 Pro, DJI Mavic 3T, DJI M30T, Autel Evo-II. In 2023, Trooper Rangel attended the Airborne Public Safety Association Basic Proficiency Evaluation for Remote Pilots (BPERP) Proctor course and currently serves as an instructor for the Department’s UAS training program. He has completed numerous crash scene forensic maps using photogrammetry. Trooper Rangel had the privilege of participating in the 2024 Public Safety Aviation Search and Rescue Exercise, successfully integrating UAS with Manned aircrafts in field operations. Trooper Rangel continues to work in a collaborative effort with local, other state and federal agencies to ensure public safety.
